Lisbon Exploration- Shore Excursion

OVERVIEW

Lisbon is one of Continental Europe’s oldest cities. It’s Portugal’s capital, largest city and main port. Situated upon 7 hills at the estuary of the Tagus River, Lisbon’s natural harbor is considered one of the world’s most beautiful. This lovely city’s white limestone and pastel painted buildings, capped by terra-cotta roofs, climb its hills from the waterside in a glorious patchwork of color.

You’ll be met by your English-speaking driver, at your disposal for the entire excursion, at the Port of Lisbon arrivals terminal. Reach the city’s most important districts, squares and sites in your private, air conditioned vehicle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Thanks to its explorers from the Age of Discoveries, Portugal became a vast, wealthy empire between the 15th and 18th centuries. Lisbon was, at that time, the world’s most prosperous trading center. The Alfama and Ribeira are two of the city’s oldest quarters.

In the 18th century, Lisbon was an opulent, gilded city with winding medieval streets. The great earthquake, tsunami and fire of 1755, an event which changed the course of the nation’s history, almost completely destroyed the city.

The capital was quickly rebuilt in a grid plan with wide gracious avenues and innovative anti-seismic/anti fire buildings.Enjoy a day in fascinating Lisbon, seeing its important monuments, elegant “new” town and Alfama district: Lisbon’s last vestige of its medieval heritage.
