DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Aveiro’s origins date back to Roman times. Grown prosperous through fishing, salt production and maritime trade, it was nearly wiped out when sea access became blocked. The canals, built in 1808 to revitalize the sea link, brought a new prosperity as reflected by the old train station and Art Nouveau homes. Get a taste of the town’s history & traditions and enjoy a sample of its signature sweet: ovos moles.

After a visit to Farol da Barra lighthouse, Portugal’s tallest; you’ll arrive at Costa Nova. This fishing village/beach town is situated on a long peninsula surrounded by water – lagoon on one side, Atlantic on the other. Its famous candy-striped painted wooden houses, called “palheiros”, were originally fisherman’s shacks and make postcard perfect photos!
