This medieval town has ancient roots which pre-date even its establishment as a Roman town. You’ll see the Temple of Minerva which gives testament to Assisi’s Roman past. Further along on your descent through town you’ll find the lovely Basilica of St. Claire, coming next to the Romanesque style Duomo.

You’ll enjoy other sights on your way to Assisi’s crown jewel: the Basilica of St. Francis. This church built for and dedicated to St. Francis is an artistic treasure with frescoes by the period’s greatest artists: Giotto and Cimabue among them.
